General Discussion / Re: Vectrex Animation Programs
September 03, 2016, 05:10:25 AM
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the LOGO limited release for the Vectrex which seemingly does this. (Or LOGO Lite from Madtronix). Check those out. Maybe a bit hard to obtain now, but sounds like exactly what you are looking for.  It would be nice to do something similar via Vectrex32, but it sounds like it would have to be designed from the ground up - and still would not be able to save to memory.

This would indeed be a nice firmware upgrade if possible.  ^_^

I also was an original commentator on this topic. I, as of yet, am not a programmer or developer, but am hoping that experimenting with the Vectrex32 will change that. I bought one to play around with programming on the Vectrex. I am a very ethical person, and believe in supporting the programmers/developers directly if at all possible, and not resorting to buying from re-sellers or auction sites where the programmers/developers don't make those mad profits from re-sale. I only suggested copy protection for the benefit of the people spending long hours making something new and great for my favorite console. They should be compensated and rewarded for their time and effort. If even one person uploads their ROM/BIN without the developer's permission, the damage is done. It pains me to see that. The Vectrex community is pretty strong, and the odds of seeing this publicly done are slim, and even after enough time passes, most developers do in fact release their ROM/BINs publicly either right away, or after a physical release. Physical releases won't be possible with programs written for the Vectrex32, so the developers may be at more risk for their works to be stolen - especially if an emulator is developed and released to play these games. Although one would still need a Vectrex32 to play said game on the actual hardware. I just want to see developers being justly compensated for their work.

General Discussion / Re: Emulators for Vectrex32?

Yes, exactly. Thank you gliptitude for the clarification. Vectrex 32: what do you think of both ideas?

Not on the Smart Cart, but a PC emulator and development kit for producing Vectrex32 games. It could display a small preview of the game code in action (not too big as to dissuade people from playing ROMs/BINs solely on this. It would be a programmer's tool for trying out this new idea. Then they would want to buy a Vectrex32 Smart Cart to test and fully visualize their creations, and of course, people would need the hardware to play the games fully on a Vectrex console.

Yes, an emulator for the Vectrex32 would (I believe) be a good idea to promote interest in the actual hardware. If you develop a game on the emulation software, who wouldn't want to see in on a real Vectrex? And if you want to play the game in all it's glory on a real Vectrex, (like most of us do) you would need a Vectrex32 Cart.

Gliptitude: I've given that some thought too, as I would like the developers to be compensated for their work and always try to support them directly. I do know you can list a download for sale through certain websites - but how do you stop people from copying and redistributing the file once it is downloaded? The Vectrex community is pretty good at making sure this doesn't happen (at least publicly, online). One way I have thought to combat this is to individually number each downloadable ROM/BIN so that you know who is abusing the system. I know this isn't exactly fool-proof, but it would certainly dissuade copy/distribution. (Or be extra sneaky and hide that number, or word phrase, in the source code like some info in the original GCE games so if you ever come across a downloadable version online, you'll know through sale info who is doing it and refuse to sell to them or such). Yes, this would mean you may have to sell one ROM at a time at certain sites, or list however many ROM/BINs (1,2,3,4,5,ect) at the same time for purchase. A password system I though was a good idea, but people could just share passwords with the ROM/BIN and we're back to square one. There may be no way to prevent it, but a few ways to catch the people doing it. Just some thoughts on IP protection, which I myself care about. I hope my thoughts and insight help.

Feature Requests and Bug Reports / Re: Link Feature
August 23, 2016, 01:41:54 PM
Yes, I too would love to have this feature if possible, so I second the notion. Vectrexer talked about this recently and I believe has more info on an existing way of doing this if needed.
