Title: Where to put 6809 machine code?
Post by: Anterasterius on February 16, 2026, 04:26:20 PM
Hey everybody,
I am curious about using 6809 machine code in my GBasic Vectrex programs. Beyond using a code sprite, I am clueless. Back when I would do this on my Atari 800, I would put 6502 instructions into a string or array, the starting address of which was available to BASIC. Once I had the address of the string, I could instruct BASIC to run the code at that address. Is there a similar trick for the Vectrex?
There's a nifty memory map (https://www.playvectrex.com/designit/chrissalo/memorymap.htm) over at playvectrex.com that shows $C800-$C880 are available to the programmer. Does the Vectrex32 use any of that?
   Thanks for reading!

Code sprites are the only way to do 6809 machine code. There's nothing similar to the Atari mechanism.

As for whether the V32 uses the memory at $C800-$C880 ... I'm pretty sure I don't use it for anything.

Thanks! Now to teach myself 6809 instruction set!  ???
BTW error in my previous post, the memory for programmers is $C880-$CBEA.
$C800-$C880 is for Vectrex BIOS housekeeping. I probably don't want to go waltzing through that!  ;)
