The first question I would ask is how many Vectrex32s are anticipated to be produced through the life of the product?  How many will be in regular use?  The Vectrex scene is passionate but very small.  The number of people willing to purchase a Vectrex32 at its cost level will be a subset of that and I suspect the majority of us will be developers.  The developers will respect each others' work.  If someone does steal a game how many copies will have been not sold as a result?  I think it's more a question of "will this ever be an actual problem" than it is one of how possible it may be.

Hrm.  My son is a Scratch wizard.  He was a heavy Scratch user for years.  I will ask him if he thinks this would be worthwhile.

There may be some overthinking going on here.  If we consider the fact that any improperly distributed ROM could only be played by people with a SmartCart then that really limits the amount of people who would have any interest in the piracy.  It's not like people can take one of these games and put it on a regular flash cart or play it in an emulator.

Even if a closed SmartCart were developed to be sold as an end product it still does require the architecture of the SmartCart.
